Question for those who would choose unisex names or names of the opposite gender for their kids?

Reading some of the different ideas for names, and names people have been given, over the past few weeks, I see that some people like unisex (or gender ambiguous) names and even using names more often used on the other gender (i.e. boys names on girls, girls names on boys).

If you fall into this category (or it's your preference), can you share why, i.e. your reasons for prefering these kinds of names?

Also, some people argue that it's the kids that have to put up with these names, that they may not like them, risk getting teased, being mistaken for the opposite gender, having to explain their names etc. Do these arguments and objections make you rethink or do you ignore them. Again, if so, do you have any particular reasons for going one way or the other on this.

Alex

Question for those who would choose unisex names or names of the opposite gender for their kids?
I have a gender neutral name and frankly I went so far as to legally change it !

I haven't used it in many years.

Yes, I was mistaken for the opposite gender on school forms,

Ridiculed by others, my name constantly spelled wrong and I had to constantly correct people. Why, my marriage license even had me married to myself !
Reply:my daughters name is payton

i chose that name because i liked it and so did my husband not because it was a unisex name, there are alot of very beautiful unisex names out there children have
Reply:idk my names taylor and i hate having a unisex name!!
Reply:Name the child something that you like. Everybody gets teased about something at some point in their life (people put too much emphasis on that), and your child could possibly dislike any name, so you may as well name them what you want.
Reply:In my family, kids are named after grandparents, also names we've chosen because we like them.

Jerrianne, girl, called Jerry. Both grandpas are Jerry(Gerald)Grandma Anne.

Karla, girl, grandpa Karl with middle initial of A.

Randy, girl, great-grandpa Randolph.

Jerry is 6, too young to tell yet if she likes it.

Karla %26amp; Randy are older and have always liked their names.

Only Karla has trouble, they spell it with a C, which she has to correct alot. I have trouble with people spelling my name, it's not unisex, I was teased about my name.
Reply:I think it is names they like ... and they sound good either way.

I mean ... Usually the name fits both girls and boys. I like some boy names for girls. But not so much the other way.

I wouldn't name my child a name I thought they maybe teased about.
Reply:Usually when people start using a boy's name for girls, it becomes a girl's name. Ashley was a boy's name originally, as was Beverly and Sidney, and a bunch of others--Marion/Marian, Francis/Frances.

The "Mac" names that are so popular now--McKenna, McKenzie--technically mean "son of," but they're becoming popular girls' names.
Reply:When I named my son Reese I thought it was strictly a boy name. It never even crossed my mind people would use it for a girl. I now have yet to meet another male Reese, all girls.
Reply:I have a gender neutral name that I would like to use for one of my kids...

It's not so bad that the kid would get teased.. and lets face it.. if kids want to tease someone badly enough, having a normal/standard kinda name is not going to stop that...

I use my nickname more often than I use my own name because its so much more individual and more my own... I think having a name that few or no other people have would be nice.. and really help you develop your own sense of identity..
Reply:I picked a name for my baby if its a girl that is unisex its Addison! lol Um some unisex names are fine some are fine but others confuse me:) Just depends on your preference i cant explain why i picked that name i just fell in love with it :) Take care!
Reply:It's not that I necessarily prefer 'unisex' names, I just like a lot of names that happen to be unisex names. Such as Addison, I love this name, and I know it's was a boy's name, but I still love it for a girl. It's not because I don't want my child to be descriminated against, I just happen to like the sounds of the names. I also like singular gender names too, though.
Reply:Jayne is a good boys name
Reply:My oldest children have unisex names (Tyler(boy) and Taylor(girl)). In fact, I have friend whose children have the same name but in the opposite gender.

The main reason for choosing such neutral names is because I grew up with am ethnic name. Even though people feel we live in a "we are the world" society, people still make pre-judgments based on your name, even before they have met you face to face. I did not want my children to go through that experience so I chose names that would not identify their gender or race. There are too many other uphill battles that children must face to have to be concerned with people judging them based on a name.

BTW..my other two children are Trinity (3 for my third child) and Tyson but those names are not unisex.

Does anyone else like Unisex names?

These are what I can think of. Can you add any?

Does anyone else like Unisex names?
I do like unisex names ... but it seems that I like them more for girls than I do for boys. For example, we have two names picked out right now (we're pregnant) and for a girl it will be

Ryan Heather Ruth (middle names are after family members)

For a boy:

Wesley John Robin (again, after family)

Don't know why I am not a huge fan of them for boys, but I LOVE them for girls.
Reply:With the exception of Dana, Robin, Brynn, Erin, Shelby, Blair, Adrienne, Leslie, Kelley, and Kendall, I think all of the names you've listed are very masculine.

I also prefer Robin, Brynn, Dana, and Blair on boys.

I don't like boy names used on girls and I really don't care much for true unisex names, either.
Reply:I do not mind unisex name

I do have a rule of unisex names

If it's in the top 100 of the other sex, I would not use it

Hunter is in the top 100 of boys names, I would not name a girl Hunter

Lesley, Shannon, Ashley may be unisex names, but they are too common of a girl name for me to name a boy

Taylor is a top 100 girl name, I would use Tyler for a boy

I do not think some of your names are unisex, Johnny, Elliott, Dawson, Spencer are boys names

Piper is listed as a unisex name, but I would never name a boy Piper

Names you missed

Casey/Kacie, Shane(b)/Shayne(g), Hayden, Haley, Drew, Daryll, Lynn(I would not name a boy), Jo, Zaire, Anaya, Peyton
Reply:I like some of them, but not all. Some unisex names have dominantly become used for one gender (ie. Lynn, Shelby, and Ashley are pretty much all women while Addison, Jordan, and Shawn are all men.) When people put dominantly one-gendered unisex names on the other gender, it kind of bugs me because I don't like to see kids get picked on for their names. Things like Quinn, Lee, Jamie, and Dana are great though.
Reply:I like Hayden. My fiance and I just had a little boy and we were going to name him Hayden either way if it had been a boy or a girl.

It would have been....

Girl: Hayden Fern-Marie

Boy: Hayden Gary

We had a boy and ended up naming him Preston Gary because there were too many boys in our family with names that rhymed such as Aiden and Caiden.
Reply:These are masculine BOY's names. Not unisex names.

Reply:I love unisex names! Did you mention Addison? I can't think of any others, it looks like you've covered them all! (:
Reply:My daughter's name is Kacie and we planned to name her Casey if she would of been a boy.
Reply:you forgot ASHLEY(my name) - was originally a male name.....ex. "gone with the wind", but sounds more girly
Reply:No, not really. I don't think most of those names are truly unisex. I think when most of those names were created, they were intended to be used on a boy or a girl, and then somewhere along the line somebody decided to start using them on both. The problem with unisex names is that it is a trend--a name does not stay unisex forever. It will become more masculine or more feminine over time. Let's take Madison. Madison means "son of Maude" (which is a form of Matthew). Now, obviously, if you are a "son" then it was originally intended to be a boy's name. Right? But everybody is using it nowadays for girls. That's today's trend. A hundred years from now, Madison will change, it'll be more masculine or feminine or unisex. Names change as trends change. So I think to name kids unisex names, which are very trendy, is silly. If you really like unisex names that much, call your next son Elizabeth or Sarah. Start a new unisex trend. It'll be the next "happenin" thing, I'm sure.

What are some great unisex names?? What are your favorite?

I love boys names on girls, my favorites are Blake, Sawyer, Mason and Hunter.

What are your favorites and do you like the ones that ive listed?

Thanks!

What are some great unisex names?? What are your favorite?
I love the name Bailey, Jayden, Rory. My son's name is Austin and I have heard it as a girls name before. I have also heard Harley as a girl but I don't like it. My favorite on your list is Mason.
Reply:I like unisex for girls ONLY (i like Ryan for a boy and Blake for both)

Riley is soo cute
Reply:Sorry, but while I love some unisex names which have actually gained enough popularity on girls (Bailey, Aubrey, Rory, etc.) the names you have on there are NOT unisex. They are all 100% boy names and looking at them written down I'd never assume a girl was being named.
Reply:I like Blake for a girl, but the other i prefer as boys name, but that's just me lol.

My fav girls names that are more considered boys names are: Madison, Skylar, Kenadi, Kendall, Taylor, and Rylee.

:D.

EDIT: Sorry smoky but the 4 names she has on there are unisex names, just cuz u think of them more as boys names doesn鈥檛 mean they aren鈥檛 unisex names.

And god Rachel Marie u sound like the infamous bunny, lol and believe me that鈥檚 nto a compliment.

There are to such things as unisex names, and while u may not like boys names on girls or whatnot doesn鈥檛 mean others can鈥檛, everyone has a right to their own opinion.

Lol u have the same name as my oldest sis, so I like u name, but u need to learn to let people have their own opinions on stuff.
Reply:i think your names are great because you like them and that's all that really counts....well of course your mate needs to have a say ..but some unisex names that i think work for both and sometimes...when you read it you may think ...boy or girl...i know a girl named Ryan..and thought she was a boy until i met her....ok names...Jamie...Kelly...and you could....do all y ending or ie...Cody.....Erin.....Stevie...Carri...... some good examples.
Reply:I love Blake, Sawyer, Rian, Tyler, Berkeley, Bentley, Taylor, Ashtyn, Jaidyn, Hayden, Kaedyn, and others.
Reply:I like Dylan or Tyler
Reply:I really like Mason, that's cute! Tyler, Charlie, Taylor, Rylie, Frankie, Hartley, Ashton, Devon, Skylar, Grayson and Danica(Danny for short). The last one is unisex but its cute:)

My nieces name is Tyler Lynn, I love it and it really fits her:)
Reply:HA! People like Rachel Marie are hilarious. Quite frankly, they remind me of the five year old children with their hands crossed in the corner, eyebrows as far down as they do, stomping their feet screaming, "This is the way it is!"

The truth of the matter is, people will name their babies what they want to. And, unfortunately for you allknowing Rachel Marie, there are a lot of gray areas. There are very few names which are black and white. (William and Fred will probably never be used on girls, but look at their feminized verions: Willa and Freida. Likewise, Rose and Nancy probably won't be named to any young boys in the near future.)

What people like this Rachel person don't understand is that we (society) make the rules up ourselves. And it is completely based on our perceptions. An example: if tomorrow Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Aniston came out with a blockbuster movie (similar to the effect that "Twilight" has had on Americans) and her name was Thomas in the movie, people would probably start naming their baby girls Thomas.

That's the way it is. No one person can control it. And stomping and crying in the corner isn't going to change it. Sorry, Rach!

Now - on to your question! :) I love the name Alex for a girl, and Hunter for a boy. I really think most people consider Hunter a boy's name, but I've seen it used on girls, so it must be unisex (especially since you consider it to be unisex!). Also cute is Nicky/Nikki and Emerson. Some people above have mentioned Blake, Dylan, and Harper. These are also cute. Of course, I love Sawyer.

*EDIT - Rachel Marie is 14 anyways.
Reply:Dana, Cassidy, Alex (love it as a girls name)
Reply:I love all of your unisex names (ESPECIALLY HUNTER) and would use them on either gender.

I also like Morgan (for a girl only), Connery, Spencer, Dakota, (for a boy only) Emerson (for a girl only), and Berkeley.
Reply:I like all of those names.

Mason and Sawyer are my favorites.

i love Addison, Emerson, and Leighton
Reply:i like carson.

and Blake
Reply:My favorite names that you've picked are Blake and Sawyer. I wouldn't pick Mason for either gender, but that's just me.

My name is Morgan. Sometimes when I was younger I felt like my parents had given me a stupid boy name, and I confess that on occasion I still wish I had a long beautiful feminine name. Names like my sisters and my friends had - Alyssa, Elisabeth, Victoria, Isabella.

At the least I would have liked to sound like a girl right off the bat with a name like Allison or Megan. As I got older, my name wasn't so important anymore and now I think it fits me. But just as it's difficult for some boys to be named Hilllary or Dana, it can be hard for girls to carry unisex names throughout life. Kids are very concerned about being instantly recognized as a boy or a girl, and your daughter probably won't be happy when she finds out a boy (or three) in her class shares her name.

A good half-way point might be something like giving your daughter a feminine name like Samantha and calling her Sam, or a unisex name like Carson with a feminine nickname like Carrie.
Reply:"Sorry, but while I love some unisex names which have actually gained enough popularity on girls (Bailey, Aubrey, Rory, etc.)"

Check the stats, because Hunter and Blake are both used more on girls than Rory is. Hunter reached an all-time high for girls of the 308th most popular name for girls in 1998, Blake reached an all-time high for girls of the 906th most popular name for girls in 1995, and Rory reached a lower all-time-high of #987 for girls and dropped out of the Top 1000 a year later, if usage determines gender then Blake and Hunter are more girls names than Rory. : )

I don't find them trashy at all, actually I think they are very elegant and stylish as long as they are spelled correctly and not Huntyr or Blayke or any other attempt to make it more feminine.

I love Blake for a girl, it's so elegant and stylish, actress Blake Lively is pretty well known today, so people should be used to Blake on a girl, and it suits Blake Lively perfectly.

Sawyer is okay for a girl, I prefer it on a boy, but it could grow on me on a girl.

I like Mason for a girl, but I find it slightly dull for either gender to be honest ... I think Sawyer and Hunter are more exciting. There was a girl called Mason on Nip/Tuck a little while ago.

I like Hunter for a girl too.

These are some unisex names I like:

Sterling

Harper

Lexington

Wynn

Chandler

Devon

McKenna

Emerson
Reply:I do not think that Sawyer and Mason work for girls, but thats just my opinion. Some I've heard:

Blaine

Brighton

Quinn

Carson

Brett

Emerson
Reply:Sam- i love this its so simple but cute.

Dylan/Dillon- another favorite.

Ryanne/Ryan

i really like blake
Reply:There is no such thing as a unisex name.

Boy's names are boy's names, and are masculine and trashy on a girl.

Girl's names are girl's names, and should stay that way.

Thre is only one exception to my rule, and that name is Remy for a girl.

Please, do not make your daughter have an identity crisis if you name HER Blake or Sawyer

EDIT: You are correct, 100% correct. But, if you look, you'll see I asked those questions over 3-5 months ago.

I have come around and seen that I was completely wrong; boy's names should not be used on girls.

Opinions can change, ya know. But nice try :)

ok I see your point, you're right. But I'm still trying to let ya know that I changed. And while I was once oblivious and ignorant, I'm not now.

Would u use these unisex names, and if yes for a boy, girl, or either?

I did a question with these same names earlier, but I changed it up on what I asked peeps to do.

All of these names are considered unisex names, and 9 of them are my fav names, the rest I either really like or at least like them.

DIRECTIONS:

Tell me whether u鈥檇 use them for a child (Yes, No, or Maybe) and whether u鈥檇 use it for a boy, girl, or either.

Oh and tell me whether u鈥檇 change the spellin of the name, and what spellin that would be.

BONUS: Put a middle name with the names that u said Yes too.

Closest person to my answers gets the 鈥楤est Answer鈥?br>

Good luck and thanx!

Do girls with "guy"/unisex names have their sexuality questioned?

I don't want to make out that this happens a lot, especially not after people know me. But one of the biggest irritations that I have about being named Alexandra is not being asked repeatedly when people first find out whether my mom had wanted a girl, because that does seem a fair question. Rather it is the assumption or implication that I am either gay or a sissy as if I chose the name for myself.

I am wondering if girls who have more typically guy/male based unisex names have this assumption/question put to them too, or whether it is a kind of double standard/inverse sexism.

Alex

Do girls with "guy"/unisex names have their sexuality questioned?
There's a lesson to be learned here folks: don't name your little boys Sue, Debbie, or Alexandra! Why set them up for this? I know a gal named "America Star" and even SHE hates her name...it's not that she doesn't love this country, but she's just sick and tired of having to answer "patriotic questions" and tired of having to "tell the story" (even though there's no real "story" to it...no patriotic event or entertaining narrative to be told) behind how she got her name, to every single new person she meets (because they ALWAYS ask!) She hates having to say "I have no idea why my parents named me this." She says she's sometimes even tempted to make something up! She's even been asked (on more than one occasion) stupid questions like "why aren't you wearing red, white and blue?" She wishes her parents had given her a name that no one gives so much special attention to. She's even thinking of changing it for that reason. But giving boys girls' names just causes even more problems for the boy. Our culture (in general) is much more "o.k." with girls having boys names, but not vice versa. It may not be right, it may not be fair, but that's the way it is. I have no problems whatsoever with a guy who has a traditionally female name. Most of us don't. But the questions and the prying that people do when they encounter an unusual name can probably get very old after awhile.
Reply:I remember a question you asked about your school counselor asking if your name bothered you, and you insisting it didn't. Sounds like maybe it does. Report Abuse

Reply:First off I don't find anything wrong with your name, a name does not dictate who you are.

I know a few girls with guy's names, like my friend Joey, she gets the same reactions from her name that guys with girl's names get, her reaction is normally a one finger salute to the one who asked her if she was lesbian just because of her name.
Reply:Alexandra, I am going to take a guess that these stupid comments come from insecure jock machismo guys rather than any girls or guys that are more secure in their sexuality. Seriously, my thoughts are that your name makes them feel insecure about the way they feel inside so they lash out at you. It's wrong of course, but it's not about you, it's about them.

I think it is the same for girls who have more "guy-ish" names. But again, I don't think in general the comments come from other girls, but rather guys.

I just don't think girls will have a problem with your name for the most part. It's actually a rather nice name and a strong name. Don't worry about those kinds of comments.

Just to add reading some other comments. It may seem easy to "blame" whoever named Alexandra, but I think that is shifting the blame for where the problem Alexandra stated lies. Blaming his mom or whoever is just making an excuse for the people who are being abusive and takes responsibility off them. This just shows why it would be better to have less strong gender associations to names in the first place and let parents choose the names they like just based on what they like.

Reply:I think parents who give their children unique names have done them a favor, or at least given them the tools of an advantage if they are strong enough to utilize it.
Reply:It's only that guys tend to tease each other about their sexuality a lot. I'm a victim of that too. But I took it well.

I'm fat, so I got boobs. People used to keep calling me a girl or bisexual. Please never respond to stuff like this. Take it in your stride, because you know what's true. Maybe your mother did want a girl, but did that stop her from loving you any less? No. Always remember that.

Many people get their lives ruined when this goes too far. Many college boys in my country are teased about sexuality, and when it goes overboard, they rape a girl to 'prove that they're men'.
Reply:nope, guys are obessed with calling eachother homo and fag for anything and everything. I have never met a girl with this issue
Reply:Alexandra? That's not unisex. That's feminine in any language I've ever heard of.

Masculine would be Alexander, Alejandro or Alexandros.

I don't believe their is an ungendered equivalent.

If a girl was called "William" she might get hassled the same way. (Again, not unisex - masculine).
Reply:I have to say that from what I've seen a girl having a "male" name really doesn't run into problems. And if her nick name is male it's still cool for her. Toni or Vic or Dan or Ken are common short versions of girl's names. And even a girl being called Jack or Sam will raise eyebrows but not too much.

Unisex I think is ok for both sexes but others may have had different experiences. Guys with girl's names or ethnic names that in America are usually girl's names seem to have strange looks sometimes but I think more from insecure guys.

It's stupid but I'm not suprised by much.

What are some unisex names that you think should just stick to one gender?

I think some parents have gone too far with giving their children names of the opposite gender because they think that it's cute.

I think some names that should stick to boys are:

Dylan

Devin

Blake

Riley

Charlie

Bobby

Dakota

And names that should stick with girls are:

Mackenzie

Kim

There are more... but what are your opinions?

What are some unisex names that you think should just stick to one gender?
I don't think any of these are unisex and are all horrid on girls:

Aubrey

Madison "Son of Maude"

Addison "Son of Adam"

Emerson "Son of Emery"

Jameson "Son of James"

Riley

Bailey

Taylor (Tailors were always male)

Dylan

Devin

Cameron

Blake

Kelly

Hayden

Peyton

Reagan

Teagan (Anglicized form of the Gaelic boy's name Tadghan)

Whitney

Harper

Harlow

Marley

Ainsley

Frances / Francis

Kendall

Elliot

Emery

Avery

Aaron

Skyler / Schuyler / Sky

Ashton

Cody

Jesse

Hunter

Tyler

Carson

Meredith

Tristan

Micah

Ezra

Delaney

Lane

Lux

August

Greer

Jasper

Kai

Noah

Reese / Reece / Rhys

Shane

Ray

Shay / Shae

All Mac names. Mac means Son of.
Reply:I totally agree with you. Even for names that started out as boys names but have become entirely girls names, I think they should remain girls names now.

Stick to the boys;

Dylan

James

Blake/Blaise

Skyler/Schuyler

Elliott

Austin

Ashton

Cody/Coby

Grayson

Charlie [Unless it's a nickname]

Hunter

Tyler

Stick to the girls;

Rory

Aubrey

Brynn/Wynne

Carol

Evelyn

Cassidy

Kenzie

Lindsey

Lux

Meredith

Vivienne

Ariel

Ashley

Reply:Yes, I agree! Can you imagine having a name that could be either and someone going "is that a boy or a girl"? Some are OK, but these ones should stick with their original gender.

These are the ones which I think should remain only in that category (boy/girl)

Girl

Mackenzie

Taylor

Jodie

Kim

Ashley

Courtney

Peyton

Boy

Blake

Charlie

Riley

Bailey

Kyle

Cameron (spelt this way, Camryn's OK for a girl)

Francis

Jamie

Brett

Reply:i agree, though I like Dakota and Riley for girls. and Blake like Blake lively should really be a boy, i'd agree with you on that one. I've never met a girl named Charlie, thats my dads name. kim i thought was always a girls name. i shudder at a boy being named kim... wierd haha

my name is strict girl at least i think (: (shayna)

some more

my sister kelly, a boy waiter was named kelly which was wierd

kyle (there is a ***** in my school named kyle) things like aaron, for girls aryn, or jaden, i think is more of a boys name but my adopted cousin has it (: i can't really think of any more, the nickname Alex though I think is suitable
Reply:I think Dylan and Ryan should stick as guy names, though I really don't care if they are girl names.... I mean, I'm not one that's bugged by unisex names... only slightly when boys have names like Logan and Kelly and Shannon... that's just weird. And I find it kind of funny when people think McKenna and Aisling are boys' names. But, I do think that some people need to get over the unisex obsession, that's old hat...

Opinions!
Reply:I know these aren't very common, but I dont think any boys should be named Leslie, Carol, Sue, and I don't like Robin as a boys' name.

I don't like Bobbie/Bobby, Billy/Billie, or Charlie as a girl name.
Reply:Originally boys names that should now stay with girls: Evelyn, Kimberly, Hilary, Shannon, Marion, Avril, Beverly, Tracy
Reply:Girls:

Taylor

Ashley

Avery

Mackenzie

Bailey

Patty(I know a boy named Paddy lol)

Dylan

Spencer

Blake

Bobby

Joe

Charlie

Parker

Alex

Bryce

Reply:I like Devin, Riley, Charlie, and Dylan as girls names better

and i think

no Leslie for boys.
Reply:Names that sound wrong on girls to me:

Madison

Addison

Riley

Blake

Dylan

Ashton

Peyton

James

Aubrey
Reply:Most def, Taelor.

Most people spell it "Taylor", but my parents wanted be different.

%26amp; im completely fine with that.
Reply:I agree with for boys on:

Blake

Charlie

Bobby

I agree with all of your girl ones!

I also think

Courtney should stay a girls name

Reply:I agree with all the names you said and want to add a few.

Noah

Micah

James

all three of these I have been told are girls names

Reply:Hayden, Harper, Elliott, Evan for boys.
Reply:Ashley, Courtney, Lindsay and Dana on boys.
Reply:Leslie. This name should just be a woman's name not unisex.
Reply:I think Whitney should stay a girl name.

Reply:Actually i think Tyler is a horrid name anyways...along w/Taylor, Bailey and Reily.

personally i cannot stand to see Evan, Blake and Emmerson on girls.

equally i hate seeing Hayden and Kyle on girls. 2 of my 3 son's are named Kyle and Hayden. now all i need to complete my disgust is for Brandon to become a unisex name.

Hayden is a boys name i dont care how big a fan you are of the show Heros. My husband's great grandfather was named Hayden. he was a 6 ft WWII vet and i'd love to hear what he has to say about this Hayden for a girl craze.

as for Kyle..uck! it ticks my son off. he's 12 like he needs that right?

that's what Kylie or Kyla is for!

as for Kim...that actually is a masculine name if you're Asian.

Kim is a boys name over there..but here in the west, Kim-Kimberly is a girls name.

i honestly think Tristen is is a boys name...my middle name is Kristen so i just dont like the sound of Tristen on a girl.

Travis is a hideous name at any rate, so is Mackenzie. cannot stand the "mack" craze.

but there are some boys names that *I* consider unisex. just my opinion, but then opinion is all it really is when it comes to baby names.

i like Avery and Charlee for a girl. sorry i know Charlie is on your "no to girls" list, but hey it's what i like.

frangipni

What are some unisex names i could use for a girl???

We had Jaedyn picked out, but i'm having second thoughts! And if it's a boy it will be Zachary Wyatt or Zachary Sage.

I already have 5 kids and my husband and I will not reuse the first letter of any of our kids first or middle names...this rules out all names starting with: K, L, E, P, N, C, A, D, T, and O

All three of my girls have unisex names with girly middle names so this also rules out Tatum Olivia, Aubrey Danielle, and Kendall Liana!!

So now that you know what we're looking for give us your best suggestions on unisex first names and girly middles!

Thank you =]

Peyton/Payton

KC/Kasey

Kason/Caysyn

Haden/ Haydyn

Jesse/Jessie

Kendall

Parker

Shannon

Aaron/ Eryn

Blaire

which is your favorite and any addition details will be greatly appreciated

Are these names good unisex names?
Cameron unisex, Kamryn girl

Taylor unisex, I like for a girl, Tyler for a boy

Caden for a boy, no matter the spelling do not like it for a girl

Ryan I like for a boy, it could both, this spelling

Lee for a boy, Leigh is for a girl

Jordan, this spelling could be for both

Brennan, for a boy, not matter the spelling for a girl

Darren for a boy

Riley Lfove for a girl, not for a boy

Peyton for a boy, Payton for a girl

Casey/Kacey for a boy, Kaci for a girl

Kason does not like

Hayden I love for a girl, okay for a boy, do not like Haden

Jesse love for a boy, jessie for a girl

Kandall I love for girl

Kenzie for both

Parker for a boy

Shannah for a gril

Aaron for a boy

Erin for a girl

Blaire for a girl

Avery, for both

Anaya for both

Zaire for both

Shae/Shay for both
Reply:I like it but... (you knew there was a catch)

Cameron/Camryn

Caden/Kayden

No Rihan

No Parker

No Shannon

No Kendall

Rileigh/Riley
Reply:I really like Cameron/Kamryn and Caden/Kaydyn. Jordan/Jordyn is pretty good too. And I would like Riley for a boy and Rylee for a girl. I do not like Kendall, Shannon, or Jesse for boys' names, or that spelling of Eryn for girls. I prefer Erin.
Reply:When you spell the female names like that, it just makes you sound stupid.
Reply:JULIO/JULIE JADEN/JADYN
Reply:Riley is a great girls name. But don't use it for a boy. Boys don't want anything feminine and would be teased. It's used mostly for girls and it sounds and looks all girl. R-I-L-E-Y and G-I-R-L.

Riley is the same as Ashley, Kelly and Leslie. Names that were at one time given to boys and girls and then only girls. Don't give a boy a girls name. Kendall and Taylor which you have listed are also used predominately for girls. I think most names are either associated with males or females, not either. With time, names go one way or the other, not both.
Reply:they're all good but my favorites are

Brennan/Brynan

Riley

Haden/Hayden

Parker

Aaron/Eryn
Reply:my fav. name is Cayson!(Kason/Caysyn)

its my brothers name!=]

btw: i dont like Parker 4 a girl.
Reply:My favorite would be Riley!! But Peyton/Payton would be cute as well!! Adding Chase could be cute for both a boy or a girl!!
Reply:I would not use Blaire, Shannon, Aaron, and Parker. But also think about if you were to give your son a name that sounds like a girls name and your daughter a name that sounds like a boys name. That could make some problems with their relationship.

I like Railey, Kenndall, and Jesse.
Reply:MY FAVORITE IS JESSIE/JESSE BCUZ JESSIE IS MY NICKNAME AND MY NAME IS JESSICA
Reply:I mostly like the first spellings. The only alternative spelling i like are Payton and Jessie.

Kaycee I prefer to KC(it should stand for something, not alone as a name). All the rest look too made up.

Not Kendall...Ken Doll....get it? I went to school with a girl named Kendall, she got picked on alot.

And the boy named Shannon got beat up by the other boys.

Other than those 2 they are all good unisex names
Reply:all but brennan/ brynan, darren/ derryn, haden/ haydyn, parker these are boys names and Blaire is a girls name all the rest you have done a really good job at picking unisex names.
Reply:Kendall would be REALLY girly for a boy. I also like Reilly (spelt like that) for a boy or Rylee (for a girl)
Reply:I don't like Peyton, Blaire Shannon or Kendall for boys, they sound too much like girl names. I think Kaydyn, Caysyn and Haydyn are all good names, but two y's is too many, it looks a bit unusual so you might consider changing one of the y's to an e/o/a. I LOVE Eryn, its cute!!
Reply:I think that Ryan, Darren, and Parker are too boyish for a girl, and Leigh, Payton, and Shannon are too girlish for a boy, but the rest are good unisex names. I love Kaden for a boy and Jordan/Jordyn is a good name. Aaron/Erin is also pretty cute. =)
Reply:My favorites are;

Cameron (I like this spelling for boy or girl)

Ryan/Rihann

Jordan/Jordyn

Haden/Hayden (I'm not crazy about the double y's - kinda looks funny)

Kendall

Blair

BTW...I have a little girl cousin named Ryan, spelled this way. She loves her name.

Most of your choices were really good, but these were my absolute favorites. This is just my opinion, but I would stay away from Brynan for a girl, Derryn for a girl, and Shannon all together. I knew 2 Shannons (both girls) and neither of them liked their name for some reason. But it's definately a girly name. If you are expecting - Congrats and good luck!
Reply:I love Riley for either gender and plan on using it for my first child. Keep in mind you can spell certain names the same way for either gender, ex. Hayden, I think looks appealing for either gender, but I don't like Haden.

I love Riley

Parker

Ryan (that was almost my name, spelled "RYAN" though, and I'm a girl)
Reply:Kamryn, Riley spelled as Rylee, Ryan spelled as Ryen, Jordyn, Brennan spelled as Brennen, Kendall, love the name Kendall Carrington and Parker. I also love the name James for a girl and the good old-fashioned Georgeanne and call her George.
Reply:Sure

What Unisex Names Can You NOT Stand On A Girl?

Recently I've been thinking about all the masculine sounding names, that are being used on baby girls, when there are plenty of really pretty, femimine names for the parents to choose from. I've only got a few favourite unisex names for girls, but, what I want to know is what unisex names can you not stand on girls. Here are a select few of mine that really make me want to scream:

Quinn

Parker

Cameron

Bailey

Avery

Dylan

Hayden

Jaden

Logan

Mason

Ryan

Shane

Spencer

Sydney

Tyler

Wallace

Wesley

However, what are your least favourite unisex names that you can't stand on girls?

Any questions just ask,

Earthy

PS: 3 weeks till baby girl is due!

What Unisex Names Can You NOT Stand On A Girl?
Oh, sooooooo many!

I agree with all of the ones you listed except:

Bailey (I think it's ok for a female puppy or something)

Avery (It sounds girly to me even though I don't care for the name) And Jaden (I prefer it for a girl rather than a boy.)

Sydney (I think it's more feminine sounding than masculine.)

Now, to add my own:

Aidan

Alick

Ardin

Aspen

Austin

Beckett

Bennett

Blaine

Blake

I was reading these and thinking "What the heck!" I cannot believe these are unisex. Almost every single one is so extremely masculine sounding. There were some I didn't put because they were ridiculous and I don't support them as names (like Teenie for instance). On the contrast,I also found some very feminine names. You should ask another question like this one except ask people what unisex names they can't stand for boys.

Congrats on the baby girl! =)
Reply:I don't see why you would post. It is kind of mean to bash someones name. Its your opinion and blah blah blah but its mean. I love unisex names. I think they are very adorable when paired with a girly middle name. I love your whole list minus Wallace, that is definitely just for a boy. Its a fine name though. I also love Clark and Carson for a girl.
Reply:Out of you list, I don't mind Quinn, Cameron, Avery, Dylan, Hayden, Sydney or Shane on a girl. The rest annoy me. Some of them I don't like full stop. Bailey was my childhood dog so the name just reminds me of a really large black Great Dane/Labrador cross.
Reply:Personally I don't like unisex names. I like names that have a musical flow but are unique but not that outlandish.

I love the names. Victoria, Layla, Mandy, and Julie.

Guys names: Izzi, Zim, Ty, and Jet
Reply:i dont like al of the ones on your list except i dont mind Bailey (i actually like that on a girl and not a boy) i also dont mind Cameron and Sydney both of those i would like better on a girl than a boy too
Reply:I think all the names you listed sound too masculine for a girl except Dylan and Parker which I think are cute for both genders.

My least favorite unisex names that i can't stand on girls are:

Logan

Mason

Rory

Tyler

Jordan

Ashton

Lucas

Austin

Cayden

Jayden

Hayden

Reply:I like unisex names. Just not the really masculine sounding ones, i.e. Mason, Logan, Spencer, and Tyler. My daughter name is Rylee Dakota and they are both unisex names. I think it is a cute name.
Reply:well I hate pretty much every name you listed! I hate them on girls but i like them on boys, especially Hayden, Spencer and Ryan.

The only 2 names i kinda like on girls are Riley and Casey.

I hate all the others!

Reply:I'm not liking the Parker, Logan, Mason, Spencer, Tyler, Wallace, and Wesley for girls.

Reply:names that were formerly boys names: Rory, Taylor, Hayden, Ryan, Quin, Aidan.

I hate the trend towards naming girls with boys' names!
Reply:Wow, you came up with a pretty long list!

You said bascially all the ones taht I was going to.

To sum it up.... I hate ALL unisex names. There's no reason for them!!

Congrats on your little one arriving soon! :)
Reply:parker,Dylan, mason, tyler, wallace, and welsey sorry they sound to boyish to me.
Reply:Tyler

Morgan

Ashton

Addison

Mason

Wallace

Wesley

Cameron

I could keep going. Your list covers a LOT of the least favorites.
Reply:I hate unisex names on girls. It's so much easier to pick a girl's name than a boy's, and by using boy names on girls, the number of good boy names are decreasing.
Reply:Dylan

Riley

Spencer

Jarrad

Logan

Bryce

Mason

Ari

Parker

Cody

Wallace

I'm 50% agree and disagree with your list. Avery and Bailey sound very feminine to me!
Reply:I agree with some of yours but not all, here are the ones I really hate:

Toni

Teri

Brett

Devon

Bobbie

Randi

Billie

Jameson

Carson

Blake

Quinn

Parker

Jaden

Mason

Shane

Spencer

Tyler

Wallace

Wesley
Reply:I don't like the following on either gender:

Quinn

Sydney

Tyler

Reply:Congrats on your little girl she'll be a christmas baby that's so sweet.

Anyway i hate every name you have listed as well as Toni

Reply:I think that most of the listed are pretty good. Jesse, Ryan, and Logan are most annoying to me.
