Unisex names. What is your take on them?

I have been searching high and low for baby names, and I have just found a liking for unisex names. I think that any of them fit with my daughter's name, Kara. I am expecting a girl, and these are some names I have found that I like:

Morgan

Madison

Ryann

Dylan

Elliott

What do you think of unisex names? Anyone who has a unisex name ever wish it was more gender appropriate? Thanks in advance!

Unisex names. What is your take on them?
I like Morgan, I think it can go both ways.

Madison can defiantly go both ways, I have a cousin that's a boy, with the name Madison. He is a football player, never got teased in school about having the name Madison. My friend just had a baby girl and named her Madison.

Ryan, Dylan, and Elliot in my opinion are boy's names.

When I first heard of someone using the name Dylan on a girl, I was taken aback. My nephew's name is Dylan, so it was a big shock to hear such a boyish name on a girl.

I hear a lot of people on here saying "Oh, you shouldn't name your girl Elliot, she will grow up to hate it!" Or, she will grow up to be a tranny!".

None of what they say is true. I know girls that have feminine names, and they don't like those!

You carried your baby, you have the right to name it what you want :)
Reply:I personally very much dislike unisex names. I really don't like them. Any of them. Sorry - it's just not my style. I don't find them pretty, feminine, intelligent. It's also sort of confusing really.

I knew a boy named Lindsey who was paired with a female locker partner in highschool because the school figured they'd just checked the wrong gender on the information form.

Kara is lovely - I like it a lot. But I'm sorry to say I don't like the names you're considering for your second daughter. I like them much better on boys.
Reply:Morgan is pretty, I like Morrigan, it's the girl spelling, meaning great queen. Love that mean. Morgan means born of sea

Madison is a top ten girl name

Ryan, is a top 20 girl name, to common for a girl

Dylan and Elliott I think of boys

Here are some unisex names I like

Emerson, it's a boys name, more common in girls

Avery

Riley

Taylor

Quinn

Ansley

Harely

Devin

Jordan

Kamryn

Kacie

Kensley

Brynn

Paxton

These names I like for a girl or both
Reply:I think Morgan can be either, but probably more feminine nowadays, though I knew a male Morgan. Madison is def. more feminine now. I know of 2 female Ryan's personally and many male Ryan's. Dylan I feel is more masculine and Elliott is def. masculine, in my opinion. I have a daughter named Makenzie, which I feel is more feminine now. I don't think I'd ever go as far as naming a little girl Charlie or a little boy Addison.
Reply:It really depends...My name is Julie. Pretty feminine lol. But the nickname Jules is common for both boys and girls. It never really bothered me. (I was going to be an Isabella!)

Morgan - Love it for a girl. Morgan Elizabeth is absolutely stunning.

Madison - Very trendy.

Ryann - I don't like it. Love Ryan for a boy though!

Dylan - Boy's name. I know two Dylan's. They are both boys.

Elliott - Boy's name.

I LOVE the name Kara!

I think a more feminine name for her sister would fit better.

The one with the unisex name, would ask one day "Why did Kara get such a feminine name, and I have a boy's name?"

If you do go with a unisex name...I'd really think about it.

Morgan and Madison are fine from your list. But the rest...not at all.

Also, if you go wtih a unisex name, give her a feminine middle name. It would balance out the name. And vice versa.

Morgan Elizabeth (Unisex - Feminine)

Ella Madison (Feminine - Unisex)

I love Kara and Emma for sisters. Kara and Dana are really cute too.

Congrats!

Reply:I really don't like unisex name.

Ryan, Dylan and Elliott are boys name. No matter how it's spelled, I still consider them boys name.

Madison was originally a boys name but I see it as more of a girls name. It just sounds more feminine even if it does end in son.

Morgan, I prefer it more for girls, but it could be used for boys.

I just think boys names should stay with boys and girl names should stay with girls.
Reply:Morgan- girl, so dull, a lot of girls have it.

Madison- girl, so dull, a lot of girls have it.

Ryann- cute, i actually have a cousin Ryan who is a girl.

Dylan- cute, I like this name for a girl or a boy, super cute.

Elliott- boy, please don't give this to ur daughter, it is a very manly name in most places (especially the USA).

I personally do like some unisex names like:

Dylan (i prefer this name on a boy)

Jamie (i prefer this name on a boy)

Rory (i prefer this name on a girl)

Hayden (i prefer this name on a girl)
Reply:I personally can't stand them, I think that boy's names need to stay boy's names and vise versa. In ten years you won't be able to name a boy Eliott, Gabriel, or Noah because people are using them for girl's name. I think you should have the freedom to name your child what you want, as a parent you should love the name but I would never do that to my child. It'd be hard growing up.

My neighbor's little girl is named Noah and she comes home from kindergarten asking why she has a boy's name. Congratulations on your baby though, may she be happy and healthy.
Reply:who cares what any of these fools think. name your kid what you want to name your kid!

suggestion: if you're worried about your child hating the name you give them, maybe give them a more "gender specific" middle name, so they have the option to be called by that name instead of the "unisex" one.

good luck and congrats with your child.
Reply:personally, i like unisex names.

i have a unisex name, it's Dakota. (i'm a girl) i also know a couple boy's with my name, but it didn't really bother me.
Reply:I'm okay with some of the unisex names but others i really think sound too feminine for a guy, or too masculine for a girl.

I don't like Dylan or Ryann for a girl.
Reply:Ryan, Dylan and Elliot are not unisex. They are boys names.

Madison is a girls name.

Morgan is the only unisex name of them.
Reply:I like unisex names, I named one of my twin daughters Rylee. I like Morgan and Dylan from your list. The only problem I have is people always assume Rylee is a boy when I tell them her name (even if shes wearing pink!)
Reply:Elliott in my opinion is the only one i think you could get away with being unisex the others seem to masculine or feminine or both
Reply:The names you have listed there i dont really see as unisex names.

Here are some uni-sex names that i love:

Darcey

Riley

Regan

Charlie

Taylor

xx
Reply:I like Morgan and Madison for girl. I think they are both cute names.

Morgan Bree and Madison Noelle would be cute. (nn Maddy)
Reply:I have the name Alexandra and I go by Alex, I love it! I think that Madisen is cute with this spelling though not Madison. ~I LOVE DEREK
Reply:I don't like unisex names - why can't girls have girl names and boys have boy names?
Reply:I think Madison and Morgan are the only good ones.

Tyler is a good one too.
Reply:Okay i love the first two but i think that they should just be girl names! and the last three i think should just be boy names!
Reply:ryann, dylan, madison and elliot are not unisex names
Reply:They all seem gender specific to me to be honest with you.
Reply:I can see most of them being used for either gender, but Madison???? How could that possibly be used for a boy???????????
Reply:i dont really like elliot but i like the rest of them
Reply:I'm not keen on them. I see unisex names as another move towards gender neutrality within society, which I don't like the idea of. I think gender differences should be celebrated, and children brought up to be proud of their gender identity.

I'm not sure if having a unisex name actually has any effect on a child's gender identity, but I do think it puts across the message that girls and boys are the same, that there are no distinctions between the sexes, which isn't true at all.

I find that most unisex names are very masculine sounding, and it seems like girls are being encouraged to be masculine in order for them to be successful. Women should be able to be equals without having to give up such an important part of our identity -- we can be both feminine and strong.

I really like Ryan(n) and Elliott, but only as boy's names. I didn't even realise they were unisex! Even though Madison has become widely used as a girl's name, names ending in -son mean 'son of'. The 'n' sound at the end of names is very masculine.

If one of your daughter's names is going to be unisex, then I'd suggest giving her a traditionally feminine name for the other. Morgan Emmeline, Madison Gabrielle etc. just to distinguish her full name as female.

There is one unisex name that I really like for a girl: Tegan (Teagan, Teegan). That fits quite well with your other names. I love Tegan Catherine and Selena Tegan.

Just my thoughts :)
