what do you think of unisex names???

As a male do think it would suck to have a unisex name? I had an extremly popular name growing up, and absolutly hated it!! i just don't want to make a mistake naming my child. The name i have in mind is Briley

what do you think of unisex names???
I hate unisex names. Most so called "unisex" names aren't unisex at all, but masculine boy names pushed on poor little girls. It's horrible and child abuse, to be honest.

Briley is masculine, it would be fine for a little boy.

Names like Logan, Riley, Bailey, Taylor, Addison, Madison, etc aren't unisex. They're masculine names that poor little girls are cruelly given.

Taylors were ALWAYS males. Females were and still are seamstresses. It's masculine, nothing feminine or unisex about it.
Reply:I think some unisex names can be okay.

Taylor, Jesse/Jessie, Andy (could be Andrea or Andrew, or something to that effect), are fine, if not a bit bland.

A lot of "unisex" names being used by generally un-educated people these days are awful, though. I met a little girl named Jameson... which means James' son. That can never and will never be a unisex name, no matter how some parents want it to be. Same goes with names like Brenda or Lillian. Those will never be boys' names, just like Samuel and Michael will never be girls' names. People need to get over it, and stop inflicting boys' names on little girls. I say boys' names on girls, because this is almost universally the case with mis-used names - there don't seem to be too many boys named Janey in the park, but some places are overrun with Riley's, Aiden's, Flynn's, Darryl's and Avery's.

Briley is a boys name to me, and should remain so.
Reply:I quite like Briley. With unisex names, you can really make a mistake. Like giving our sons a unisex name, that in his generation might be dominated by girls when he's older e.g Alex and Ryan. Giving our daughters really masculine names like Shane, Ryan, Dominic, and Jayden, I think it is just silly.

Personally, I think, boys should have names that are strong and will carry them through their whole lives. Names they won't be embarrassed about when they have to put it on a job application. With girls names there is such a wide variety of beautiful names out there, so I don't see why a mother would want her daughter to have a masculine name in the first place. Would she want to do it to make a statement? What statement? 'I'm awkward'? that may be!!!!!!!!! good luck with your son x x
Reply:I think names such as Riley, Jordan, and Caden can be cute for either sex, but i think boys take offence to having a girls name than girls do having a boy name. for instance a boy named Robin, probably would not like the name. but a girl named Hunter, doesn't really mind. I think Briley is a cute name for either sex, because it is unique enough so that it is not associated with a specific sex yet.
Reply:Some of them are alright, like Morgan and Dakota. Most of them, though, I'm not fond of. I've never even heard of Briley before, and it's not really my taste but I don't think it would be a problem. When it comes to unisex names, I prefer names that have a definite masculine form and a definite female form, like George and Georgette. When I look at a name on an application or a piece of mail, I like to know if it's from a man or a woman without having to see the face.

I can't STAND how people are putting traditionally male names on girls. Ryan, Charlie, Peyton, and James are all boy names, yet parents keep insisting on naming their daughters that! I wish people had some class these days.
Reply:I, for the most part, don't see too much of a harm in naming children unisex names- but for me, there is one exception: nothing too male for girls or female for boys. I mean this in a way not to be rude, but because I think it's embarrassing to have your boy named Robyn or something. People shouldn't be cruel to their kids that way.
Reply:I think most unisex names, tend to become popular for girls. Now if I met two Logan's, one boy and one girl, I feel like the boy has a feminine name.

It's just a matter of opinions, so if you don't like it, then don't worry. There are a bunch of names to choose from :)

I don't like Briley for a child at all.

Reply:I think it's okay for a girl to have a unisex name..I think in the long run, it'd be harder on a boy.

It's a lot easier for a girl to deal with people thinking she's a guy off of let's say a names roster, but harder for a guy in my opinion.
Reply:i think briley is cute and ok for a boy.

just don't give it a popular unisex name (taylor, jordan, jayden, addison, logan, devon)

also, most unisex names seem to be more femenine than masculine.
Reply:I named my oldest son Layne, I had never heard it used as a girls named before. Now I come to find out that it not only a girls name, but here is a famous pianist with the same name, Lane Larson. So I would think long and hard and do some research on the name!
Reply:Briley? Damnation find an adult to name a kid. Pick a name they won't have to spell, make excuses for or be embarrassed by for THEIR entire life. Unisex names are horrible for THE KID! This isn't a game you know.
Reply:My daughters name is Riley. It's a boy name, a girl name, AND a last name.

I still love it though. =]

Briley is really cute, but I would name a girl that before a boy.

It's all based on opinions.

Reply:I love unisex names.

I never thought about a boy having a more femenine-ish unisex name, but I love when girls have them. So why not, it just has to be the right name.

But I like

Alex

Cody

My name is Erin

Andy

Reply:I honestly think Briley is a girls name. I am very much for Masculine boys names. If my daughter had been a boy she would have been Colton Mavric. I have a friend whose son is Ayden. I dont think i could see a MAN named Ayden.. just my opinion.
Reply:Personally, I think true unisex names are ok....because they are generally male sounding. But nowadays people are using trendy boys names such as Preston and Morgan for girls, which does then make any boys with that name look naff!
Reply:What about Riley or Brian instead? I really like the name Bryce too. Briley may sound a bit made up. I think it would work well as a middle name. I think Matthew Briley or Gabriel Briley would be two very nice names.
Reply:Why don't you try www.thinkbabynames.com the have thousands of great names good luck when the baby comes. xx
Reply:I love unisex names on girls, not on boys. Briley is unique and I would guess a girl if I saw the name. I would not use it to name a boy - too fem.
Reply:i don't really like unisex names because they tend to become popular as girl names and that would just make a guy feel...like he has a girls name lol.
Reply:I don't like any names that require clarification.
Reply:i new a married couple whos first names were Chris. i still think that is pretty cool.-blurey
Reply:i am a girl and my name is danie......I HATED IT GROWNG UP. but briley isnt bad...i think its cute for a boy.
Reply:I love the name Briley!!! My daughters middle name is Riley which is unisex, and everyone loves it!
Reply:i never heard of it but i love the name its gorgeous
Reply:I am not a fan of masculine names on little girls...they are not my style.
