Shelby and Riley-Unisex Names.?

Hey!

Im keen on calling my little girl Shelby Jennifer %26amp; my boy Riley Matthew, but people seen to disagree because there unisex...and they seem to think Riley is better for a girl and Shelby is better for a boy...

What do you think? Are they okay?

Help! I really love these names =]

Shelby and Riley-Unisex Names.?
Shelby and Riley are both considered unisex names. Shelby for a girl and Riley for a boy are both fine. I think they are nice names and what matters most is that you and your husband like them and agree on them. I know a boy Riley and a girl Riley, both names suit them equally as well. I say forget what others say and name your baby the name you like.
Reply:I'm not too fond on either. I love Riley as a girls' name!!

Why not

Jennifer Shelby %26amp;%26amp; Matthew Riley

Good luck!!!

P.S. A boy named Shelby would be pretty weird . . . xD

**Julie**
Reply:I think that Shelby is strictly a girls name. I may be partial since it's my sisters name. :-)

I personally think Riley is adorable for a little boy BUT I believe it is becoming more and more feminine.

Maybe the spelling Reilly would make it be a bit more masculine.

I think that you if love them, go for it! SD
Reply:Im sorry but i dont really like the names. You should name the girl Jennifer and the boy Mathew, riley and shelby are just to weird.
Reply:i like your idea better than what those people are telling you. i don't think shelby is a boy name. it belongs to ford cars and girls
Reply:Don't let anyone sway your decision both names are nice.
Reply:they are both unisex names but i think Shelby is more of a girls name..and i also think that Riley is more of a girls name..

your choice though..
Reply:They are unisex names and they are ok.

I cheer with a girl named Riley and I went to school with a boy named Shelby. I know girls named Shelby and boys named Riley. So the name is unisex.
Reply:My daughter's name is Shelby, so you know I like it for a girl. I also know a lot of boys named Riley. Name them what you want, but i really like your choices!
Reply:i think they're both more masculine

shelby is definitely the more feminine one, unless you live in australia where they name their boys ashley and everything

what about ryler instead? or ryland?
Reply:I think the way u have them is good.. I would definately stick with Shelby for a girl and Riley can be a boy or girl but it sounds good with a boy.
Reply:I consider Riley masculine, not unisex so go for it. I don't really consider Shelby unisex either. I would expect Shelby to be a girl though. If you like both names go for it and don't let all the parents who think it is "So0o0o0o0 Kewwwwwt!" to give a girl a masculine name keep you from naming your son Riley.
Reply:I think Riley works OK on either gender but is more appropriate on a boy as its a surname, and surnames are by default masculine. The only Riley I know is a boy and it suits him nicely. Riley Matthew is handsome

Shelby I find hideous on either gender, sorry. It sounds like a 'dumb' name, I can't imagine a highly sophisticated and intelligent woman or man called Shelby, it screams trailer parks and hicks to me. That said, I think if it must be used it sounds better on a girl. I really don't think you could get away with Shelby on a boy anymore.
Reply:riley is an ambigious name that is starting to lean towards the girls side, if you look at naming trends. shelby is a pretty solid girl's name according to the data.

the only riley's and shelby's i've known have been girls. but i think shelby is a lovely name for a girl and riley is a great name for a boy.

name your kids what you want to name them, really. they're both great names. some people just like to criticize.
Reply:Definitely do NOT name your BOY Shelby. That's like child abuse.
Reply:Shelby is not so bad , and Riley is a great name!

Ryan is also a great name for a boy or a girl.

There is nothing wrong with unisex names, my daughters name is Elliott, (Ellie,Elle) and it suits her very much!
Reply:Well, it;s your opinion. I think it's okay, not too bad. But my boyfriend's name is Shelby... lol.
Reply:What is with these new parents and the names they're giving their kids!? I guess your not a new breed there's PLENTY of dumbly named kids in my generation but really.??? a BOY named Shelby?!?!!? hahahaha that kid would get picked on SOO much. What happened to names like Samuel?? Steven?? Jacob?? Joshua?? or Rachel?? Olivia??? Katherine/Kathleen??? Andrea???

It's a very common name for both boys and girls

Does this help
Reply:I think Shelby and Riley are both girl names.
Reply:Riley is not just a girl's name, I think it works perfectly well for a boy, so you can definitely keep Riley Matthew. And maybe you can switch Shelby Jennifer to Jennifer Shelby!
Reply:Ok, Shelby is a a good girls name, if you spell it "Shelbey" it is more feminine

Riley is also a good boy name, but maybe you could call him Kyle if you want something more masculine

it doesnt matter what anyone else thinks, they are your kids and if you love those names, then keep them!!!!!!!!
Reply:How about Jennifer and Matthew? Riley is for a girl and I'd feel bad calling any boy Shelby.
Reply:i love shelby for a girl, but riley for a boy is bad. how about ryan matthew, or dylan matthew
Reply:i think they are beautiful names! if you like them, then use them. don't worry about what anybody thinks!
Reply:I don't think it matters since they are both unisex names. Stick to your guns and. Riley Matthew and Shelby Jennifer are perfectly nice. :)
Reply:I think the names are really cute. It doesn't really matter if they are unisex or not. They are still adorable! Good luck!
