How do you feel about unisex names?

I'm 18wks pregnant with twin boys. We've picked the name Collin for one of them but are still trying to come up with another. I kind of like the names Jordan and Payton, but my husband (I sort of as well) has mixed feelings about using a unisex name.

What's your opinion on using them for either sex?

(and If ya think of a good name to go with the last name Matson, feel free to share)

How do you feel about unisex names?
I like them for girls and used unisex names for all three of mine. My younger two are named Jordan and Peyton lol.

I felt that a unisex name for a girl fit both a girly girl and a tomboy personality. I thought about spelling them a certain way (Jordan spelled Jordyn) so people knew it was a girl, but quite honestly, it doesn't bother me that when people look at the name and don't see a face, they don't know if it's a boy or a girl. You figure it out when you see her.

As for unisex names for boys...not a big fan. But if you like the name, go for it.

What about the name James, Nathan, Logan, Brendan, Brandon, Ryan, Sean?

Congrats!
Reply:Honestly in my opinion, I think the whole unisex name thing is going to really "date" kids from this current generation... not to mention that with the popularity of all the unisex names, there are going to be a ton of kids with the same names (think: 25 kids in kindergarten all named Madison or Jordan or Taylor, etc.) Also, consider that someday these children will be adults, and will be stuck with these names. I think there's something to be said for a strong-sounding and unambiguous name as an adult. Since you're going with Collin for one of the boys, have you thought about maybe picking another irish/gaelic name, too? I think Rowan would be cute. :)
Reply:Honestly i have known more boys named Jordan than girls. Maybe it just depends on where you live on what it is most commonly used for. However, i am a female and my name is Jamie. Jamie is a very common boy and girl name, but i dont mind it for myself. I think naming a boy Ashley might be hard for me to accept, but once again it might just be where i live. Ashley is much more common for girls, but i have noticed that there are boys named Ashley as well. I think Jpordan and Payton are both great names for your soon to be bundle of joys!! I also love the name collin. However you may choose to go, i think as long as your not giving your little boy a name that is clearly meant for a girl, than you are fine!! Cute choices and good luck with your decision and the babies!!
Reply:I'm not a big fan of unisex names. I just always liked when boys had more masculine names and girls have the pretty girly names lol.

But thats just me. Though I think some "unisex" names are actually better than others. Like take "Joey"...its used as a girl name now...but if I were to read it on paper I would assume it was a boy if I didn't know any better.
Reply:I really like both of those names. I know women and men with both of them, and they work perfectly. My name is Alexandra, but I've pretty much gone by Alex my whole life. It's great because I work in a male-dominated field, and my card says "alex" on it, so a lot of people think I'm a guy before they meet me! Haha..

But anyway, I think those names are adorable and either one would be great for your boys!

Best of luck. And congrats on the twins!
Reply:I've always loved boyish, or unisex names for girls. I like them best spelled the same way as you would for a boy.

As far as boys go, it depends a lot on the name.

Sorry I can't offer more than that, but I'll write back if I think of anything.
Reply:i think uni sex names are very cool and unique.. i have some friends who are girls name jordin (jordan) and ryann (ryan) and alex and my name is taylor. so i think they are pretty cool and jordyn and peyton i like a lot it makes girls seem more eunique.
Reply:I have no problems with unisex names myself... but I have to admit that once a name becomes unisex, I tend to personally lean towards choosing it for a girl over a boy. Boys keep losing their names to girls, it seems. :)
Reply:I like unisex names for girls and boys. My son's name is Cameron, which can go either way. I love the name Collin and Jordan...not to crazy about Payton, but it's not my kid so if you like it go for it girl!! Congrats on your twins!
Reply:I have a unisex name and I turned out fine. my names is Adrienne just spelled differntly. there is nothing wrong with a unisex name as long as you like the name you picked
Reply:I like unisex names. I think if you can imagine yourself raising your voice and using the full name (first, middle, last) then its a good choice.
Reply:i think jordan sounds great i know a few boys named jordan
