In my opinion, a name doesn't determine the sex of a person. It's his/her sexual organs.
I've met girls with 100% female names like Eva, Rose, Jennifer that are REAL tomboys and have nothing feminine about them. And girls with unisex names that are very feminine. So I don't think the name doesn't determine if a girl could be feminine.
And also there are names that in one language are feminine and in another masculine. For example, Andrea is masculine in Italian and is feminine in english. Jean is feminine in english but masculine in french...
SO THE NAME DOESN'T DETERMINE THE GENDER !!!!!
Why some people hates unisex names?
Why some people HATES UNISEX names?
I have a unisex name:Adriane. My daughter has a girly name, Rebekah Leah. She is about as tomboy as you can get. You would laugh to see her at 7 pitch a baseball like a 9 year old boy, throw down in football, or point guard in basketball. I think environment determines how a child will act. She happens to have two older brothers in sports (go figure)
EDIT* for the record I hated my name in school and got teased also.
Reply:In my opinon, it just looks and sounds strange, whether or not they turn out to be feminine or not later in life.
It seems to be more socially acceptable to name a girl a boy's name than to name a boy a girl's name...and I really don't understand that. I just personally think names should be strictly either male or female.
But this is just my opinion, and I would not be rude or mean to anyone that wanted to use a unisex name...some people on here call unisex names trashy but I would never say that.. people will always have a difference in opinion on any topic and I think that should be respected without being rude or disrespectful.
Reply:Yeah. I mean I like some unisex names and I don't like others. My name is Devon and I'm a girl. So yeah the sex obviously determines the sex.. That's easy. But if a girl has the name Tyler or Dominic I'm going to associate them as a boy. So really it's just basing an opinion on what is considered normal. Some names are just girl names! And some names are just boy names! So, a name doesn't characterize a person, their character characterizes them. Haha! I think it's stupid that a person would hate unisex names... There are so many pretty ones!!

So, being a tomboy can make them a man but naming a girl
Jack can't?
The name is something really important, and unisex names confuse people, that's why.
I personally don't care for unisex names.
Reply:If I could give one bit of advice to new parents it would be NOT to give your child a unisex name. The poor child will suffer for it most of his/her life! My husband has a unisex name and he got teased all through school and still gets mail to "Mrs." With so many wonderful names available choose one that fits your child's gender!
Reply:ok i know a girl named logan and a girl named jordan i dont have anything wrong with that, i actually love their names.
there are some names, like madison that just seem like a girl name and some names like hayden that just seem like boy name
Reply:The kid has to have that name forever. Get it one that fits it's gender. It's not fun to be mistaken for a different gender.
Reply:Because they are very trendy and sound cheap. I can't imagine a grandmother or female president named Taylor, Hunter or Riley.
Reply:A name is a name its just to differentiate from anther Personally I love unisex names
Reply:I personally have a unisex name...and I HATE IT!
Reply:idk i love unisex names. idk why tho
Reply:Of course a name doesn't determine a gender....You obviously feel very strongly about this and that's fine. However, why tag a child with a negative to start their life? You and I think that only a jerk would tease a child about their name, but it happens every day and it may deeply effect your child. Children are individuals and as parents we should do the best we can to give them a good start in life. A name is very important. If you are determined to give a name that isn't gender specific, at least give it as a middle name. I would never tease someone, but I pity the girl named "Butch or Earl" or the boy named "Sue or Marion"!
I guess what I'm trying to say is....think of how your child might feel about it rather than how you feel....
Reply:I think it's nice to have a name that clearly gives your gender. You don't have to be frilly girly or super manly, but I perfer my names to clearly denote gender. I personally despise names that are clearly meant for one gender (usually male) that are given to girls. There are plenty of frills-free girl names out there, why do people have to steal names from boys? I guess my problem is less with 'unisex' names, it's names that are clearly masculine that are given to girls.
I don't mind names like Jean or Andrea on either gender because they have cultural connections to a gender. There are even a few more modern names, like Rowan or Sage, that I don't mind on either gender. But Tyler, Jadon, Riley, Morgan, Jordan, Peyton, Mackenzie, Michael, Spencer, Dexter, Blake, etc.? I HATE them on girls.
