Is Izumi a japanese girl name or male name or unisex name?

The guy from D'espairsray is named Izumi, but i saw on a site that that name is a girl's name or a family name.

Is Izumi a japanese girl name or male name or unisex name?
I would imagine if the parents wanted to name their son Izumi, I would say it could be a unisex kind of name, it could be for either, and I'm sure if you checked back far enough, you possibly may find it is a family name; but that's not really the point, the point is that family wanted to name [THEIR SON] that name, and that is all that matters; if God likes the name for the boy, who are we to say different?
Reply:It's all three so there is the possibility of someone being names Izumi Izumi (male or female) but I really doubt any Japanese would do that.

wikipedia has examples of various people names Izumi, first or last, male or female
