The name Christian is always listed as a unisex name why do u all say it's for a boy?

I wanted to use a unisex name..Christian..so why does most everyone tell me it's only for boys? I've seen it online as both a girl's and a boy's name.

And *Beautiful* if you are out there..plz don't congratulate me again. I'm naming a miscarried baby! And Yes, I know you miscarried too.

The name Christian is always listed as a unisex name why do u all say it's for a boy?
More often than not, people associate a name with a gender they are most familiar with. Ashley used to be a male name, then went unisex, and is now most often referred to as a girl name. It is people's own perception. I personally know a girl named Christian and it fits her. It is whatever makes the family most comfortable that should work.
Reply:I was friends with a girl named christian
Reply:Christian is a beautiful name. I'm sorry for your loss.

in response to your question, I've always thought it was a girls name (lol)
Reply:well, I think the name is more like Christy when female...name the baby whatever you want--it's 100% up to you.
Reply:You are misinformed: "Christian" is a male name, and you must have misread information; the female equivalent would be 'Christiane' or any derivative of that.
Reply:BECASUE AS A GIRL IS CHRIS TEN

ANS A BOY ITS CHRISTIAN

SPELLED THE SAME... SOUNDED DIFFRENT

HOPE THIS HELPS
Reply:Im sorry about your unfortunate losses. God has plans for you, and lil christian. I like the name for the purpose! Its awesome! I am Kristen and always get called christian and they spell it like that. I love the name, but its not my name so dont like when I get called that just because its not my name. I hope you have a pleasant evening and do what your heart feels is right.
Reply:Because it has always been known as a boys name and most people don't know any girls named Christian.

Sort of like the name Jordan..it used to be just be on the "boys" list but eventually became accepted as a girls name.
Reply:Why does it matter what other people think??? I personally would never name my baby boy Kelly or Tracy, but they are also unisex names, it's personal choice.
Reply:I think people tend to use the name Christina or some variation for a girl, so Christian is usually used for boys. That shouldn't stop you from naming your baby whatever you like. (Although please be kind, the world can only handle so many Bambis and Rainbows :)
Reply:Yeah its a good boy name and if he wants to nickname Chris.
Reply:well if you are like that...you better not ask here. Most people only read half the question.

I never seen it used for a girl but then I can only come up with Christian Slater.

I think it is a great name, even for a girl, even for a deceased girl.

I wish you much strength in making this decision and the coming years.
