Can Etienne be a unisex name?

I find Etienne to be feminine and wouldnt mind naming a future daughter that. What do you think?

Can Etienne be a unisex name?
All of the "Etienne's' I've ever come across were female.

It is an older, French, very beautiful name!

I pronounce it (et.te.en).

Over the generations the sex of names change. years ago 'Kelly' was a male name; I have uncles (brothers) Kenzie %26amp; Jewel. %26amp; I'm sure different languages have different sex types for the names, such as Etienne. In south Louisiana, it has been feminine for over 40 yrs that I know of.
Reply:That's not a name at all. Sounds more like a sinus medication. "With Etienne my nasal cavities are clear for hours!" Seriously, with all the great names out there, can't you find something she won't have to spell to people ten times every time she makes a dinner reservation?
Reply:It is strictly a feminine name, as the ending is 'enne' not 'en' or 'an', which would make it male. It's a nice name, but personally I would use it as a middle name.
Reply:I suppose, if you're not French. Otherwise it's the equivalent of naming your daughter Stephen.

It is pronounced "ay-TYEN" btw.
Reply:Since it is french the ending enne dictates that it is feminine.

And I really like it :]
Reply:Definitely not unisex. It's a girl name.
Reply:sounds very feminine.
Reply:yeah i think its unisex
Reply:i think its a girls name , but I usually see boys with it . I do think its pretty though
Reply:Huh?
Reply:girl name
Reply:how do you even say that name?
