Thanks! :o)
What are some unisex names that you actually like for BOTH genders?

Reply:The two that come to mind are Rowan and Linden.
Since they both come from surnames, they were originally used on males. They follow the common male name pattern of being two syllables and ending in "en" or "an." They have also been worn by some very famous males.
However, since they are also nature-inspired choices (rowan and linden are both types of trees), they seem to work very well on girls, along the same lines as Hazel and Willow.
There are also some names that I'll admit are not bad on girls, though I'd prefer seeing them on a boy. Ashley and Aubrey come to mind -- I'd never use Ashley for a son, since it has become such a popular girls' name, but I secretly love it. I'm still hoping Aubrey retains some vestige of its masculinity.

There's also a growing trend to use James as a girl's name. I love this. Keep in mind that our children don't always like the names we give them so if you go with a unisex first name you might want a more traditional middle name. That way when the child gets older they can choose to go by their middle name and it's still a name you chose for them, versus a nickname you don't like.
Examples (friends' name for their children):
James Samantha (girl)
Carter Matthew (boy)
Matson Michelle (girl)
Quinn Alexander (boy)
Quinn Marie (girl)
Parker Savannah (girl)
Reply:It seems like almost any boy name this day except a very few are considered "unisex" however there are definitely boy names I think should stay that way. I think the name Avery is good for either. I have a son with Avery for a middle name and I know several girls named that.
Reply:I actually really like Riley for both, also Quinn, Alex/Alix, Avery, Dylan, Jamie, and Logan.

Reply:James. I actually think it is a really cool name for a girl, like the model/actress James King. I like the name Evan for a girl as well like the actress Evan Rachel Wood and I don't mind the name Brennan for either a boy or girl as well. I think Rhys/Reese works for a girl as well even though traditionally it is a boys name.
Reply:The only one I can think of is Valentine (VAL-len-tien for a boy, val-len-TEEN for a girl).
