Do you like or dislike Unisex names? Or does it not matter to you if a name is Unisex?

Like Morgan, Alex, Adin, Avery, Lee/Leigh, Aaron/Erin, Lane, Nicky, and so on.

Do you like unisex names, do you dislike unisex names, or does it not really matter to you wether a name is unisex or not?

I do not like them. My real first name is one that is spelled several ways but all sound the same. Countless times in a setting where a medical staffer comes out to the lobby and calls out my name I can see it on their face the surprise when a man stands up. I got fed up with the gender confusion to the point where I took my middle name as the one I use since fifth grade. Don't burden a kid with a uni name when you could do better.
Reply:I depends on the name, really. Certain ones I like - in particular, Angel, Cary and Stacey for boys - and others I just am not into.

The only issue I have with so-called "unisex" names - specifically ones that are traditionally masculine that have become trendy to give to girls - is that it cuts down on "acceptable" names for little boys. Most people want to steer away from giving their son a "girly" name, and as more and more masculine names are taken for girls, it severely limits what some people are willing to choose for a boy.
Reply:I don't really have much of an opinion on unisex names. It doesn't really matter to me. When I see a name I usually know myself whether I would use it for a boy or a girl.

For example:-

Morgan - I would only use for a girl

Adin - girl

Avery - girl

Aaron - boy

Erin - girl

Lane - boy

Riley - girl

Jordyn - girl

Charlee - girl

Bailey - boy - In Australia it is exclusively male

That is just my opinion though.
Reply:I have a unisex name, supposedly. It is none of the above, it's also fairly rare. But I do know of a male with it. It doesn't matter though. A name is a name, it shouldn't define you. Unisex or not. Though I do understand how males, as young boys, with names such as Ashlee or Carey may be the butt of a joke every now and then, it will make them stronger. Kids are fine with their names, unless it's something brutally awkward!!
Reply:I personally do not really like unisex names but it really depends on the name like, Jordyn, Alex i hate this name for a girl or a boy, but i named my son Kaden and i am finding out that it is just as much as a unisex name also. There are women out there now that are turning boys' names into girls though, like i have a friend who has 2 girls and their names are Austyn, and Ryenn, like austin and ryan, but i really hate this i dont really know why i just think that a girl name sjould be girly and a boy name should fit him as he is older too, Kaden is not a very manly name but i just really liked it and it was the only name me and my husband could agree on.
Reply:Aaron-masculine, Erin-feminine. They are 2 different names. Anyways, some are ok, but I hate hate hate it when people use Madison, Addison and Aubrey on girls.

Morgan is fine for a girl, so are Harper and Marley. Avery, Finley and Adin are BOY'S names, though.

Anything ending in -son is masculine.

Just what I think.
Reply:I like unisex names.

Blake Lively would probably ridiculed if she wasn't so pretty.

Certain people can pull off unisex names, but it's a gamble because if you happen to have a nerdy boy and name him Morgan, I don't know how well that will go over.

I like the name Riley a lot.
Reply:depends on if its really a unisex name like Jordan or Robin, or if someone just decided that they were like Peyton (obviously a boy).

I like Jordan, Alex, Robin, Morgan, and Angel.

but i seriously hate Avery and Peyton for girls...i associate them with male athletes!!!
Reply:Yes most of the time I love it on girls like Morgan, Sydney, Rowan, Peyton, etc

But there are distinctly boy or girl spelling which should not be given to opposite sex like:

Aaron = boy, Erin = girl

Some names should remain a boys name like Blake, Ryan, etc.
Reply:I like unisex names, but only used on girls.

But I do think that too many boy's names are just being turned into unisex names even though they really aren't and sound only boyish(such as Noah, Tyler, Hunter, Elijah, Ryan, etc.)
Reply:I do like some, a lot. However, I think once a originally male name, is used on a female, it can no longer be on a male anymore. It's just weird now. E.g. Male Ashley's, Avery's, Addison's. Etc.
Reply:unisex names are popular these days cause ignorant people are naming little girls male names like addison or madison which mean SON of adam and SON of maude.

unisex nicknames on the otherhand are okay like nicky for both nicole and nicolas
Reply:I personally don't like them, because I have a first name that can easily be mistaken for a male's name (because people don't read properly!).

I just wouldn't choose one if I had a child, but each to their own.
Reply:My name is Avery. I love it and get compliments on it all the time.

Unisex names are good, they break down sterotypes and sexism.
Reply:I love unisex names. My favorite names would be Jordan, Adrienne/Adrian, and Taylor.
Reply:In general, I don't like unisex names.

But, there are some exceptions ;)

I have two friends named Taylor, and I really like it for a boy (middle name only).
Reply:i don't really care, but i do like the spelline Jordan for a guy and Jourdan for a girl.
Reply:I actually love them!

Some of the "unisex" names seem to lean to one side though, unless they have different spellings like Aaron/Erin, Lee/Leigh.
Reply:I like unisex names....I also like some that are not, but I do really like unisex names.

We are naming our daughter Salem Kaine

= )
Reply:No name is unisex

Every name has an original gender and should only be used for that gender.
Reply:Dislike because there is no such thing as a unisex name. Just masculine boy's names being used on poor innocent girls.
Reply:I like some of them...but I usually like them for the gender opposite most other's preference.
Reply:I'm neutral on this issue - doesn't matter if the name is unisex or not, as long as it is a nice one.
Reply:I dont like unisex names, cause its confusing.
Reply:I dislike unisex names ... I think it's unfair to burden a child with a name that might invite teasing.
Reply:i don't really like unisex names but thats just my opinion.
Reply:My name is Alex. Im a girl. I hate it.
Reply:my sister has a unisex name

and she hates it because she gets made fun of all the time
